HINDS, JAMES B. - Came to Texas in 1830, as is shown in the headright certificate issued to him October 18, 1838 for one labor of land by the Board of Land Commissioners for Gonzales County.

Mr. Hinds participated in the battle of Gonzales October 2, 1835. In 1836 he was a member of Captain Peyton R. Splane’s company. He is shown on page 41 of the army rolls in the General Land Office among those who were detailed to guard the baggage at the camp opposite Harrisburg, April 21, 1836. He did not apply for the donation land due him for that service. On May 22, 1839 he was issued Bounty certificate No. 9166 for 320 acres of land for having served in the army from March 6 to June 5, 1836. He was living in Gonzales County, July 4, 1840 when he sold the certificate to Miles G. Dikes for $400. He died in Gonzalales county in 1845. C. Hinds was appointed administrator of his estate December 12, 1845.
