In the certificate it is stated that he came to Texas in 1830. In his will filed in the County Clerk's Office in La Grange, Fayette County, Mr. Wertzner states that he was born in Welkenstein, near Menenburg, Kingdom of Saxony, Germany.

Mr. Wertzner received Bounty Certificate No. 4210 for 320 acres of land, August 18, 1838 for having served in the army from February 1, to May 10, 1836. He was a member of Captain William J. E. Heard's company of Citizen Soldiers at San Jacinto and on May 17, 1839 he was issued Donation Certificate No. 894 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle. Mr. Wertzner was married to Caroline Gosiken in Fayette County September 21, 1840. He signed his will May 27, 1852 and it was opened for probate June 28th of that year. He died in Fayette County.

The State of Texas had a monument erected at Mr. Wertzner's grave in 1936.
