ROCKWELL, CHESTER B.
In the Headright Certificate issued to him by the San Augustine County Board, November 28, 1838 for one third of a league of land it was stated that Mr. Rockwell came to Texas prior to May 2, 1835. He was a member of Captain Benjamin F. Bryant's Company of "Sabine Volunteers", serving for a period of one month. He re-enlisted in the army and was issued Bounty Certificate No. 1336 for 1280 acres of land for his services from October 10, 1836 to November 7, 1837. At Houston, December 28, 1837 he sold the certificate to A. P. Thompson. He could not write. He received a Donation Certificate, dated February 11, 1840, for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle of San Jacinto.
A duplicate Headright Certificate in Mr. Rockwell's name, was issued April 3, 1872. The land was surveyed in Leon County.
ROCKWELL, CHESTER -- According to the May 1, 1835 census of Bevil (Jasper) Municipality, Mr. Rockwell was twenty-three years of age, a hatter by trade and was single.
