Calendar:
Correspondence, financial, and legal documents (1831 – 1860) comprise this small collection of nine documents related to the ancestors of Paul and Guy Cloud Stalnaker. Adam Cloud, the great grandfather of the donors and the first Episcopal clergyman in Mississippi, arrived in Texas in 1831. His son, John W. Cloud, was the first Episcopal priest in Texas, although he did not publicly practice his ministry after immigration. The Stalnakers’ maternal grandmother was Ann Johnson Mather, the second wife of Asa Brigham, signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence. Captain Joseph Walker was a great uncle of the donors. The documents are arranged according to series and then chronologically. Typescripts along with English translations of Spanish documents are placed with the original documents.
