Citation:  [Identification of Item], W. L. Springfield Papers, MC048, San Jacinto Museum of History, Houston, Texas.

Creator Sketch:

W. L. Springfield, Druggist and Apothecary, conducted business in Bellville, Texas, possibly from 1886 until February of 1897 when Tesch and Tesch, Druggists, assumed his business.

Scope and Content Note:

Five volumes of ledgers (1886 – 1892) with prescriptions (1890 – 1897) pasted over the account pages comprise the business records of W. L. Springfield, Druggist and Apothecary from Bellville, Texas.  In those ledgers where the pages are not totally covered with prescriptions, individual account information remains available.  Information included on the prescriptions include patient names, prescription formulas, and names of local physicians -–Drs. Thompson, Biggs, J. K. Stone, J. B. Burditt, and M. K. Camosey.  Also included is a photograph of the front of the Springfield Drug Store in Bellville, Texas.

Archivist’s Note:

The Springfield Drug Store was purchased by Tesch and Tesch in 1897.  Their prescriptions, rather than those of W. L. Springfield, are glued into the end of the final prescription book.  Hence, the dates of the W. L. Springfield Papers end in 1896.
