Little is known about William H. Scott, who was appointed deputy marshal in Galveston in 1848.

Scope and Content Note:

Financial and legal documents reveal information regarding the life of William H. Scott from the years 1848 to 1867.  Financial documents include a doctor's bill from 1860 issued by J. L. Cochran, M.D. to a Mr. Scott and a bill from Cochran & Cox.  Also included are two Confederate tax receipts issued in 1864 to William H. Scott.  There are six tax receipts from Brown County, the City of Galveston and Lavaca County.  An undated receipt for money paid to C. R. Cox is included in the series.

The legal documents series contains a signed affidavit dated in 1850 that states William H. Scott recorded his brand in that office.  Also included is an 1848 appointment issued by Samuel M. Williams to William H. Scott, notifying him of his appointment as Deputy Marshal and instructing him to seize all the Negroes on Corbin's place.
