Creator Sketch:
Eugene W. Bowers was a district clerk of Clarksville, Red River County, Texas and a noted researcher and collector of early Texas history. Bowers is most regarded for his 1888 publication: A Whole People Indicted.
Scope and Content Note:
This collection contains both financial and legal documents collected by E. W. Bowers. The financial document series consists of a single signed promissory note of $500 to be paid to a James E. Browning by W. H. Gray and Richard Ellis. The legal documents series contains two documents pertaining to Robert Hamilton who was a signer of the Declaration of Independence of Texas and resided in Red River County, Texas in 1834 to 1839. The two documents are a Bill in Equity No. 256 regarding Abner H. McKenzie v. Robert Hamilton filed on March 12, 1841 and a petition of Robert Hamilton filed April 10, 1841 regarding one league and labor of land in Red River County, Texas.
