"ALLEN, WINNIE." The Handbook of Texas Online. http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online/articles/view/AA/fal63.html

Scope and Content Note:

Correspondence and notes, an affidavit, photographs, and a clipping document the provenance of the George Catlin portrait of Stephen F. Austin. Allen’s communications include correspondence with Hally Bryan Perry (co-executor of the Austin papers), representatives from the Smithsonian and the William Hayes Fogg Art Museum, and Marie McCool (seller of a Catlin image of Austin) about the sale of a Catlin image, information about the artist, and the authentication process for the image. Two black and white photographic images of the Austin portrait reveal the condition of the portrait in 1940.

Archivist's Note:

The documents were collected in a file created by Dorothy Knepper, former San Jacinto Museum of History Director.
