WILKINSON, LEROY--Probably born in Georgia. In the Court of Claims files in the General Land Office, Austin, Texas, there is an affidavit signed by Christopher C. Parker of Pike County, Georgia in which he stated that he came to Texas in 1835 with Mr. Wilkinson. In the Headright Certificate issued to the heirs of Mr. Wilkinson March 2, 1838 by the Board of Land Commissioners of Colorado County for one third of a league of land it is stated that Mr. Wilkinson came to Texas prior to May 2, 1835. The certificate was issued to Captain William J.E. Heard, administrator of Mr. Wilkinson's estate. He was a member of Captain William J. Heard's Company at San Jacinto and on February 13, 1860 his heirs were issued Donation Certificate No. 109 for 64O acres of land due him for having participated in the battle. His heirs were issued Bounty Certificate No. 230 for 960 acres of land due Mr. Wilkinson for three months services and for having died while in the army.

In the Court of Claims files in an affidavit made January 1, 1858 by Captain Heard it was stated that Mr. Wilkinson was wounded in the Battle of San Jacinto and died from the effects of his wounds about two weeks later.
The living heirs of Mr. Wilkinson on April 27, 1857, as shown in the Court of Claims files, were his mother Mrs. Penelope Wilkinson, Calhoun County, Mississippi, and the following brothers and sisters all of whom lived in Mississippi: Henry, Calhoun County; Sarah, wife of William Carr, and Jane, wife of Jesse Fox, both of Calhoun County; Mary, wife of James B. White, Nancy, wife of William Teate, and Susan, wife of Frederick Beall, all of Attala County; and Eliza, wife of John Pearson of Upson County, Georgia.
