WILDER, JOSEPH--Came to Texas in January, 1836, as is stated in Headright Certificate No. 461 issued in the name of Joseph Wilder March 17, 1838 for one-third of a league of land by the Harrisburg County Board of Land Commissioners. The rights to the certificate had been assigned. As a matter of fact he arrived at Velasco, January 28, 1836 on the schooner Pennsylvania having been recruited at New Orleans for the Army of Texas by Captain Amasa Turner. On page 27 of the army rolls in the General Land Office, Joseph Wilder is shown as a member of Captain John Hart's Company at Velasco, January 28, 1836. Captain Roman commanded the company at San Jacinto.

On page 11 of the San Jacinto rolls printed in 1836 the name is shown as JAMES WILDER. It appears as JOSEPH WILDER on a "list of Captain Albert C. Horton's Company, whose names are found on register of Foreign Volunteers, but were not placed on original muster rolls on file", in the Adjutant General's Office." A copy of this list is on file in the General Land Office.
Joseph Wilder was issued Bounty Certificate No. 2474 for 1280 acres of land, February 26, 1838, due him for having served in the army from January 29 to October 25, 1836. The certificate was assigned to Samuel Whiting.
Mr. Wilder probably left Texas shortly after being discharged from the army. He did not apply for a Donation Certificate for 640 acres of land due him for having participated in the Battle of San Jacinto. Donation Certificates were non-transferable.
