WALNUT, FRANCIS -- Arrived in Texas at sometime between May 2, 1835 and March 2, 1836. In the Headright Certificate issued to him December 29, 1838 for one-third of a league of land by the Brazoria County Board of Land Commissioners it is shown that he came to Texas before March 2, 1836. Had he arrived before May 2, 1835 it would have been so stated in the certificate.

Mr. Walnut was a member of Captain William H. Patton's Columbia Company at San Jacinto but he did not apply for the donation land due him for having participated in the battle. He probably left Texas shortly after the revolution. He was living in Brazoria County December 29, 1838 when he sold his Headright Certificate to David C. Van Derlip, on the day it was issued and he had assigned his rights to his Bounty Certificate to Charles W. Bender before it was issued. Donation Certificates were non-transferable.
