TYLER, ROBERT D. -- Born in Kentucky. In the Headright Certificate issued to his heirs March 1, 1838 by the Brazoria County Board for one-third of a league of land, it is stated that Mr. Tyler came to Texas prior to May 2, 1835. He was married to Sarah Patton in Brazoria County but his wife died before February 2, 1833, at which time Matilda D. Patton was appointed administratrix of her estate.

Mr. Tyler participated in the Storming and Capture of Bexar, December 5 to 10, 1835 and for this service his heirs on January 19, 1839 received Donation Certificate No. 765 for 640 acres of land. He was first sergeant in Captain Thomas H. McIntire's Company at San Jacinto. In 1836 he served in the army from March 28 to June 21 and for this his heirs on February 8, 1838 received Bounty Certificate No. 2305 for 320 acres of land.
The Telegraph and Texas Register announced in February, 1837 that Mr. Tyler was a candidate for election to the office of constable of District No. 1, Brazoria County. He died in January, 1838, leaving, as heirs Ephriam C. Baker and wife, Caroline Baker formerly Caroline Tyler, widow of Abraham O. Tyler, deceased, late of Fulton County, Kentucky, and E. C. Baker, guardian of William S. and Abraham S. Tyler, minor children of Abraham O. Tyler, of Weakley County, Tennessee.
The heirs of "Robert D. Tyler and Sarah Tyler, late of Columbia Texas" were on July 1, 1850, James P. Tyler, John H. Tyler, and Elizabeth P. Tyler of Kentucky and Willett Tyler of Indiana.
Bounty Certificate No. 7044 for 320 acres of land probably due Robert D. Tyler for three months service in the army in 1835 was issued to his heirs. This was lost and upon the recommendation of the Court of Claims a duplicate was issued November 1, 1880. By this time Abraham S. Tyler, one of the heirs previously mentioned, was of age and was living in Williamson County, Texas.
