TAYLOR, CAMPBELL -- Born in North Carolina, October 12, 1812. In an unnumbered Headright Certificate issued to him in January 19, 1838 for one-third of a league of land by the Bastrop County Board it is stated that he came to Texas in 1835. He was Third Sergeant of Captain Jesse Billingsley's Company of "Mina Volunteers" at San Jacinto and on May 22, 1838 was issued Donation Certificate No. 174 for 640 acres for having participated in the battle. On April 27, 1838 he was issued Bounty Certificate No. 3052 for 320 acres of land for having served in the army from February 28 to June 1, 1836.

Mr. Taylor was married to Harriet Craft, daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Craft, who was born December 3, 1818 and died December 28, 1911. Mr. Taylor died July 29, 1888 while a member of the Texas Veterans Association. His remains and those of his wife are in the cemetery in Bastrop in marked graves.

Children of Mr. and Mrs. Campbell Taylor were Elizabeth Jane, who married R. B. Wilkes; James, who never married; and Alice, who married C. R. Haynie.
