STROUD, JOHN W. -- The name "J. W. Stroud" appears on the San Jacinto rolls printed in 1836 as a member of Captain William S. Fisher's Company. No one by that name was issued Headright, Bounty or Donation Certificate. A "John Strode" was issued Bounty Certificate No. 2086 for 320 acres of land, April 18, 1838 for having served in the army from March 16 to June 10, 1836. No one by that name was issued Headright or Donation Certificates. John W. Stroud was issued Bounty Certificate No. 9852 for 320 acres of land September 30, 1841 for having served in the army from June 25 to September 26, 1836. He did not receive a Headright or Donation Certificate. It is thought that the three names mentioned above were intended for Mr. Stroud.
