SIGMON, ABEL -- Arrived at Velasco January 28, 1836 on the Schooner Pennsylvania, having been recruited in New Orleans by Captain Amasa Turner for the army of Texas. The fact that he came to Texas in January, 1836 is verified in Headright Certificate No. 115 issued to Mr. Sigmon February 5, 1838 for one-third of a league of land by the Board of Land Commissioners for Fort Bend County.

Mr. Sigmon was a member of Captain Amasa Turner's company at San Jacinto but he did not apply for the donation land due him for having participated in the battle. He was issued Bounty Certificate No. 754 for 1280 acres of land December 2, 1837 for his services in army from February 13, 1836 to December 2, 1837. He was living in Fort Bend County February 28, 1838 when he sold his certificate to Handy and Lusk. He could not write and affixed his mark to the deed of transfer.
