PACE, WILLIAM CARROLL--Born in Virginia about 1816 and came to Texas in 1828, as will be seen in the sketch of his brother James Robert Pace.

Mr. Pace was a member of Captain William J.E. Heard's Company of Citizen Soldiers at San Jacinto and on October 31, 1848 Donation Certificate No. 133 was issued in his name, but he delivered to his heirs, due him for having participated in the battle. No bounty certificates were issued in his name.

Mr. Pace died in Colorado County prior to March 3, 1838, at which time Wm. B. Dewees, guardian of Mary Ann Elizabeth Pace and agent of James R. Pace appeared before the Board of Land Commissioners of Colorado County and applied for one-third of a league of land due to William C. Pace as a Headright. In the Headright Certificate issued it is stated that Mr. Pace arrived in Texas before May 2, 1835. The certificate is in the Brazoria County First Class Headright File No. 74 in the General Land Office and in it also a transfer made July 22, 1873 by the heirs of Mr. Pace of the certificate to a purchaser. The surviving heirs in 1873 were: James R. Pace, brother of William C. Pace; Robert I. Pace and Dempsy C. Pace, nephews; and Mrs. Laura Keylick, niece of William C. Pace.

The biographies have been scanned from the original typescripts, a process that sometimes allows for mistakes in the new text.
