MOCK, WILLIAM N. -- Born in Alabama in 1806. In the Headright Certificate issued to him February 6, 1838 for a league and labor of land by the Board of Land Commissioners of Harrisburg County it is stated that he came to Texas in 1835. With him were his wife, son, and daughter. He was issued Bounty Certificate No. 4033 for 320 acres of land July 10, 1838 for having served in the army from April 12 to July 12, 1836. He was a member of Captain Moseley Baker's San Felipe Company at San Jacinto and on May 28, 1838 he was issued Donation Certificate No. 237 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle. The deed Records of Harris County, Book A, page 339, show that Mr. Mock was living in Houston March 15, 1838, when he sold Lot No. 6, Block 41, situated on the corner of Prairie Avenue and Smith Street to William Beardslee for $500. He sold his Headright Certificate March 20, 1841 to Ephraim McGary while living in the then Montgomery County, now Walker County. He died in Walker County prior to November 6, 1843, when A. H. Mason was appointed administrator of his estate. This is shown in Book 3, page 7, of the Probate Records of Walker County.
