MILLER, HUGH -- Arrived at Velasco, January 28, 1836, on the schooner Pennsylvania, having been recruited for the army of Texas in New Orleans by Captain Amasa Turner. His name appears on page 27 of the army rolls in the General Land Office as a member of Captain John Hart's Company at Velasco January 30, 1836. First Lieutenant Richard Roman succeeded in command of the company and was its captain at San Jacinto. Mr. Miller was a member of the company at San Jacinto and on March 29, 1850 Donation Certificate No. 202 for 640 acres of land was issued in his name, due him for having participated in the battle. In Comptroller's Military Service Record No. 501 it is certified that he served in the army from January 30 to April 30, 1836. On March 29, 1850 his heirs received Bounty Certificate No. 634 for 320 acres of land. In the Headright Certificate for one-third of a league of land issued in his name in 1838 by the Board of Land Commissioners of Brazoria County it is stated that he came to Texas before March 2, 1836.

The Probate Records of Brazoria County show that Mr. Miller died in the county in 1838. Alexander C. Dougall was appointed administrator of his estate May 28, 1838.
