HOPSON, LUCIEN -- Many names on the official San Jacinto muster rolls printed in pamphlet form in 1836 were badly misspelled. The compiler is thoroughly convinced that the name Thomas Hopkins shown on the roll of Captain Thomas H. McIntire's Company was intended for Lucien Hopson. No one by the name of Thomas Hopkins received any land for having served in the army of Texas and no reference is made to him in any of the Military Service Records on file in the Archives of the Texas State Library.

Mr. Hopson was born in Ohio November 25, 1898. In the Headright Certificate issued to him May 2, 1839, for one-third of a league of land it is stated that he came to Texas in 1836. On August 17, 1840, he was issued a Bounty Certificate for 960 acres of land August 17, 1840, for having served in the army from February 3 to November 4, 1836. The State Legislature by joint resolution, approved October 29, 1866, directed that a certificate for 640 acres of land be issued to Mr. Hopson for having participated in the battle of San Jacinto. Donation Certificate No. 13/148 was issued to him November 9, 1866.

Mr. Hopson was a member of the Texas Veterans Association. His home in 1875 was in Lampasas County. He died at Austin February 16, 1896, and was buried in the State Cemetery. His grave is marked.
