HILL, H. -- Shown on page 18 of the San Jacinto rolls printed in 1836 as a member of Captain William Kimbro's San Augustine Company.

The name H. Hill appears on page 52 or the army rolls in the General Land Office as having enlisted in Captain William D. Ratcliff's Company of San Augustine Volunteers April 1, 1836. While on the march to join the main army a disagreement arose between Captain Ratcliff and some of his men which culminated in the resignation of Captain Ratcliff and the election of Leonard H. Mabbitt as Captain. Some of the volunteers continued the march toward the main army unattached. Captain Ratcliff, Philip Walker and others reached the San Jacinto battlefield on April 22nd, but Mr. Hill evidently arrived there in time to participate in the battle.

Mr. Hill's name does not appear on page 47 of the army rolls as a member of Captain Mabbitt's Company May 9, 1836. He did not apply for any land due him for his services in the army.

The biographies have been scanned from the original typescripts, a process that sometimes allows for mistakes in the new text. Researchers should verify the accuracy of the texts' contents through other sources before quoting in publications. Additional information on the veteran may be available in the Herzstein Library.
