HARRIS, ANDREW JACKSON -- Born in Tennessee and came to Texas in 1831 as is shown in the list of applicants for land in Austin's Colonies.

In the Lamar Papers, Mr. Harris is shown as having served under Lieutenant William J. Russell, commander of the schooner Brazoria in the battle at Velasco June 26, 1832. He was issued Bounty Certificate No. 129 for 320 acres of land for serving in the army from April 18 to June 18, 1836. He was a member of Capt William S. Fisher's company at San Jacinto and his heirs were issued Donation Certificate No. 60 for 640 acres of land October 27, 1859, for his having participated in the battle. He was issued a Headright Certificate for one-third of a league of land by the Brazoria County Board of Land Commissioners, January 25 1838.
The Deed Records of Brazoria County, Book C, page 35, disclose that on August 8, 1837, Mr. Harris deeded certain property to his wife, Fanny Harris, and their children, situated in the town of Brazoria. He died in Brazoria County prior to June 7, 1855, at which time, as recorded in the Probate Records of Brazoria County, Book G, page 60, Thomas B. Harris, his son, was appointed administrator of the estate of his mother, she being a widow at the time of her death.
