GAGE, CALVIN--Born in New York in 1814. He was a son of Reube Gage who was born in New York in 1770 and who was issued a Certificate of Character by Talbot Chambers for Milam's Colony, September 16, 1835. In the Headright Certificate issued to Calvin Gage, February 1, 1838 by the Bastrop County Board for a league and labor of land, it is stated that he came to Texas in 1833.

The Probate Records of Bastrop County show that Mr. Gage died in Bastrop County in 1849. Hamilton Smith was appointed administrator of his estate on April 30th of that year.
Gage was a member of Captain Jesse Billingsley's "MINA (Bastrop) VOLUNTEERS and on January 18, 1861 his heirs were issued Donation Certificate No. 334 for 640 acres of land due him for having participated in the Battle of San Jacinto. The heirs were issued Bounty Certificate No. 335 for 320 acres of land due him for having served in the army from March 1 to June 1, 1836 and Bounty Certificate No. 9538 for 320 acres for his services from July 20 to November 20, 1836.
