FARMER, JAMES -- Born in North Carolina in 1801. He arrived in Texas in 1830, as is shown in the Headright Certificate issued to him for a league and labor of land by the Washington County Board February 1, 1838. He was a member of Captain William W. Hill's Company at San Jacinto and on December 12, 1845, he was issued Donation Certificate No. ____ for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle. On ________ he was issued Bounty Certificate No. 3833 for 320 acres of land for having served in the army from March 11 to May 30, 1836. The following information concerning Mr. Farmer is found on an original roll of Captain Hill's Company at muster April 11, 1836. A photostatic copy of the roll is in the Archives of the Texas State Library: He joined Captain Hill's Company at Jesse Burnam's March 11, 1836. He was five feet, eight and one-half inches in height, of fair complexion, with blue eyes and fair hair.

Mr. Farmer died near Hazledell, Comanche County, June 2, 1881, while a member of the Texas Veterans Association.

Children or Mr. and Mrs. Farmer were Willis and Mary Ann Farmer.
