BAKER, DANIEL DAVIS D. -- In applying for land in Austin's second colony Mr. Baker stated that he was born in Massachusetts in 1806 and came to Texas in February, 1831, single. Stephen F. Austin in Service Record No. 1526 certified that Mr. Baker entered the army at the beginning of the revolution as second lieutenant in Captain T. L. F. Parrott's Company of artillery; was in the siege of Bexar and was discharged November 23, 1835. He re-enrolled in the army March 18, 1836, as captain of artillery but served as a private in Captain Moseley Baker's Company at San Jacinto. On December: 13, 1838, he was issued Bounty Certificate No, 5065 for 320 acres of land for having served in the army from March 18 to July 18, 1836. He received Donation Certificate No. 693 on December 14, 1838, for having participated in the battle of San Jacinto.

Captain Baker represented Matagorda County at one time in the House of Representatives of the Congress of the Republic. The Probate Records of Matagorda County show that he died at Matagorda, May 2, 1843. Shadrack Cayce was appointed administrator of his estate.
