DAVIS, JAMES P. -- Came to Texas in December 1834, as is stated in the Headright Certificate issued to his heirs January 24, 1838 for one-third of a league of land by the Bastrop County Board. He was a member of Captain Henry W. Karnes' Company at San Jacinto and on August 6, 1840 his heirs were issued Donation Certificate No. 1058 for 640 acres of land due him for having participated in the battle. The heirs on January 17, 1840 received Bounty Certificate No. 9414 for 320 acres of land for his services in the army from March 17 to June 24, 1836. On January 2, 1839 they received Bounty Certificate No. 6054 for 32O acres of land due Mr. Davis for having served in the army from July 1 to September 15, 1836.

Mr. Davis died in Bastrop County prior to January 24, 1838. His heirs on December 8, 1847 were George W. Davis, Nancy Moore, Eliza Crenshaw, Margaret McNeely, Mary E. Bacon and Abigail Atkinson.
