CLARK, CHARLES A. -- Name not on the San Jacinto rolls printed in 1836. In Comptroller's Military Service Record No. 72 signed June 23, 1836 James D. Owen, Paymaster it is certified that Charles A. Clarke served in the army from January 30 to June 17, 1836, as Corporal in Captain Richard Roman's Company of "Texas Volunteers." Charles A. Clarke signed the following receipt: "Recv'd of A. Brigham Auditor, a draft in my favor for Forty Five Dollars in full for four & half Mos. Services in the Army of Texas ending June 17th 1836.

In Comptroller's Military Service Record No. 4530 signed October 30, 1837 Barnard B. Bee, Secretary of War it is certified that Charles A. Clark was a Second Lieutenant of Infantry from March 9 to October 30, 1837, when he resigned.
On January 30, 1838 Bounty Certificate No. 2183 for 1280 acres of land was issued in the name of Charles A. Clark, due him for having served in the army from January 28 to June 17, 1836. The land was surveyed in the Bexar Land District in what is now Tom Green County in 1849.
In Headright Certificate No. 73 issued in the name of Charles Clark, February 1, 1838 for one-third of a league of land by the Board of Land Commissioners for Harrisburg County it is stated that he arrived in Texas in January, 1836. As a matter of fact he arrived at Velasco, January 28th on board the schooner Pennsylvania and was recruited in New Orleans for the army of Texas by Captain Amasa Turner. The name Charles A. Clarke appears on page 27 of the army rolls in the General Land Office as a member of Captain John Hart's Company at Velasco January 30, 1836. Richard Roman, First Lieutenant at that time, later became captain of the company.
