CHRISTIE, JOHN -- Arrived at Velasco December 20, 1835 as a member of Captain W. A. O. Wadsworth's Company of Columbus (Georgia) Volunteers. On page 5 of the army muster rolls in the General Land Office there is a notation after Mr. Christie's name stating that he was left at Velasco to attend the sick. He later joined Captain Amasa Turner's Company and in it participated in the battle of San Jacinto. In Service Record No. 4172 it is certified that he enlisted in Captain Turner's Company February 13, 1836 for a period to two years and was discharged from Captain Robert Oliver's Company October 7, 1837 by virtue of a certificate from the Surgeon General. For this service he was, on November 7, 1837, issued Bounty Certificate No. 132 for 1280 acres of land. He sold the certificate January 2, 1833 to John Belden of Houston. He named Harrisburg County as his home. He probably left Texas early since he did not apply for a headright or for the land due him for having participated in the battle of San Jacinto.

A petition from S. S. Christi, through Hollingsworth and Cook,
attorneys, dated October 13, 1859 is in the Court of Claims file
in the General Land Office. Application was made for the land
due John Christie, deceased. It was recited that Mr. Christie
came to Texas in 1835 and had participated in the battle of San
Jacinto in Captain Turner's Company. The address of Mr. S. S.
Christie was not given. He, however, had received Bounty
Certificate No. 84 for 320 acres of land, October 15, 1859 for
having served in the army from May 18 to August 18, 1836. He was
a member of Captain Alonza B. Sweitzer's Company. His land was
surveyed in Bell County.
