CHAVENOE, MICHAEL -- In the Headright Certificate issued to Mr. Chavenoe in 1838 for one-third of a league of land by the Liberty County Board of it is stated that he came to Texas in 1829. In Service Record No. 1911 it is certified that he enlisted November 14, 1835, at Liberty in Captain John C. Reed's Company, which was attached to Captain Mark B. Lewis' Company, and served until December 13, 1835. He was a member of Captain William M. Logan's Company at San Jacinto and on September 28, 1853, he received Donation Certificate No. 522 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle. At the same time he was issued Bounty Certificate No. 1375 for 320 acres of land for having served in the army from March 6 to June 6, 1836.

Mr. Chavenoe lost his Headright Certificate and a duplicate was issued. This he sold on February 26, 1352, to Charles S. Cleveland for $50.00. His home at that time was in Liberty County. He sold his Donation Certificate October 15, 1853, to Benjamin F. Brown while living in Fort Bend County. He was unable to read or write.
