ANGEL, JOHN -- Born in Portsmouth, England, in 1810. On his Headright Certificate issued by the Harrisburg County Board for one-third of a league of land, it is stated that Mr. Angel came to Texas in 1835. In Service Record No. 2047 it is stated that he served in the army from March 17 to December 20, 1836. His Donation Certificate No. 1029 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle of San Jacinto was issued March 9, 1840.

Mr. Angel was a member of Captain Richard Roman's company. Captain Nicholas Dawson succeeded Captain Roman in command of the company, and on a muster roll of Captain Dawson's company now in the archives of the State Library, the following information concerning Mr. Angel is found: He was recruited by R. Roman for the duration of the War. He was born in Portsmouth, England; was 26 years old; was 5 feet, 8 inches high; of dark complexion; dark hair and brown eyes. Enlisted March 17th. Columbia was given as the place of his residence.

Mr. Angel was living in Hays County April 21, 1852, when he sold his Headright Certificate to Almariah Wilson for $246.00.
