ANDREWS, MICAH -- Born in Alabama in 1809. Since various dates have been given for his arrival in Texas, one historian fixing the time as early as the year 1818, the following is quoted from the Headright Certificate issued to him February 1, 1838, by the Board of Land Commissioners of Bastrop County.

"This is to certify that Micah Andrews has appeared before us, the Board of Land Commissioners for the County of Bastrop, and proved according to law that he arrived in this country in February 1835." Being single he was given a Headright Certificate for one third of a league of land. In Service Record No. 117 it is certified that Mr. Andrews enlisted in the army February 28, was promoted to First Lieutenant March 1, and was discharged May 28, 1836. He was First Lieutenant of Captain Jesse Billingsley's Company at San Jacinto and on May 22, 1838, was issued Donation Certificate No. 175 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle. He was appointed Captain of a company of mounted riflemen, for duty in Mina (Bastrop) County, December 7, 1836, by President Houston, resigning his commission January 1, 1838. He afterward, however, frequently commanded volunteers in fights with Indians. He died in Fayette County in 1849 having never married.
Captain Andrews was a son of William and Mary Andrews. Their children were Richard, Athelston, Green, Micah, Mary, Martha and Reddin, five or whom eventually moved to Texas.
Richard Andrews, "Big Dick," arrived in Texas in 1831. He was the first man killed in the Texas Revolution, being mortally wounded at Conception, October 28, 1835. He was twice married. Andrews County was named in his honor.
Athelston Andrews came to Texas in 1836 but remained but a short time, returning to his home in Alabama.
Green Andrews came to Texas in 1850. His son, Frank Andrews, lived in Houston.
Reddin Andrews died at Montel, Texas, in 1885.
