FINLEY, BENJAMIN C. - Shown on page 42 of the army rolls in the General Land Office as one of the men of Captain Joseph B. Chance’s Washington Company who was detailed to guard the baggage. His heirs were issued Bounty Certificate No. 260 for 320 acres of land February 7, 1860 for his services in the army from April 7 to July 7, 1836. It is stated on the certificate that he was furloughed to re-organize the court of Claims. The heirs were issued Donation Certificate No. 117 for 640 acres of land May 9, 1860, due Mr. Finley for having participated in the battle of San Jacinto. The land was surveyed in the Nacogdoches Land District in what is now Van Zandt County.
